Vastgoed
55
The
imminent transition from guilder to Euro gave Vastgoed 55 cause, in 2000,
to invite textiles artist Barbara Broekman, via Enterprise & Art,
to design a monumental tapestry for its premises at the Singel in Amsterdam
where a number of financial institutions like Fortis Bank, Stichting Toezicht
Effectenverkeer, and Werkgeversvereniging voor het Bankwezen have their
offices.
The tapestry, of a design by Broekman, is a layered composition depicting
details of the banknotes of all European countries introducing the Euro
in 2001. It shows for instance the Dutch Lighthouse and Sunflower, as
well as the French Petit Prince and the Portuguese Merchantman. Graphic
art by Dutch banknote designer, Jaap Drupsteen, provides internal coherence.
The beauty and unique identity of the highly distinct banknotes, whose
extinction is imminent, are emphasized in this object.

"In
the course of our long association the ties of friendship have grown
deep between Onderneming & Kunst and myself, creating a strong
bond of trust.
We know how the other thinks, respect one another’s opinions
and contacts are open and frank. I admire Onderneming & Kunst’s
enthusiasm, inventiveness and engagement towards both clients and
artists. I fondly recall my collaboration with clients I was introduced
to via Onderneming & Kunst. I look forward to future projects
with keen interest." |
