P&O North Sea Ferries

& Art is commissioned, in 2001, by P&O North Sea
Ferries to place the art for the two new cruise-ferries to service the
Rotterdam-Europoort to Hull route.
This is the first time that the firm is responsible for the selection, production, transport, and installation of all the art on board a ship. Because of its destination, and because the client is a Dutch-British company, the artists selected for the project are exclusively Dutch and British.
Over twenty artists make unique pieces for the on-board public areas including monumental glass mosaics by Barbara Broekman and neon columns by Titia Ex. Except for two locations, the selected artists all deliver art for both ships.
For the cabins, 7 Dutch and 6 British artists make a limited edition of graphic art pieces. The art collection adds an extra dimension to the passengers’ perception of the special quality of cruise ferry travel.
