From Kandinsky to Corneille
Linoleum in the art of the twentieth century

Cobra Museum for Modern Art, Amstelveen 1999/2000

Initiator and sponsor, Forbo Linoleum, celebrates its 100th anniversary with an Enterprise & Art organized exhibition dedicated to a relatively young print technology: the linocut.

For this exhibition are assembled over 180 linocuts and linoleum objects, providing a review of the history of this medium from the earliest experiments by German Expressionists to the most recent developments.

Linocuts are on show by artists including Kandinsky, Matisse, Picasso, Escher, Corneille, Baselitz; Kara Walker, Joris Geurts, and Klaas Gubbels.

Four young artists from four continents are commissioned by Forbo Linoleum to make two ‘Linoleum Art Prints’. Liesbeth Hemelrijk compiles the exhibition in close collaboration with the Cobra Museum, also preparing the catalogue.

The exhibition catalogue is still available in our webshop.
